RE: Richmond, Virginia-- any better ideas?

If you enjoy history Richmond is a good place to visit. I'd recommend either the Museum of the Confederacy or the Tredegar Iron Works since you just have one afternoon.

RE: Unknowingly You've Created A Monster

We've tossed this idea around too because we also wanted a tougher motorhome and specific things that aren't usually included in standard motorhomes. We finally decided on a custom class C and are in process of getting a small motorhome built on a 4x4 F450 chassis.
Let us all know how your project turns out!

RE: Susuanville Ca casino

Check out this website for casinos that allow overnight RV parking.
http://www.casinocamper.com/States.htm
Diamond Mountain isn't listed but there are many other casinos where you may be able to stay. If you want to stay around Reno , Boomtown in Verdi , Nevada allows parking.

RE: Gulf coast in early Jan

I know for sure that the Walmart right off of I-90 in Gulfport doesn't allow overnight parking. The Flying J should be fine but if you want to dry camp, the casinos in Biloxi will be much quieter. Check out this site - http://www.casinocamper.com/Mississippi.htm

RE: DIY upholstery (foam, fabric, etc)??

I can't be much help on the right kind of foam to buy but I can tell you what not to buy. We wanted to replace the seat cushion on our dinette and bought a piece of high density foam from Joanne Fabrics. It was very expensive and felt pretty stiff so we thought that it would be fine but it bottomed out after just a short time of sitting. We ended up just adding more padding to the original cushion and recovering it.

RE: Dometic RM 2454 Americana

We have a larger Americana - model #2652. We fulltime so it's in constant use. Our motorhome is a 1996 and we had one refrigerator that leaked the coolant so this is our second one. I think that it's probably about 8 years old. Last summer the gas jet got plugged and we had to clean it out but other than that we've had no problems. It still looks brand new , none of the shelves , bins or racks have broken or cracked. We also prefer the arrangement of the shelves and racks over similar Norcold refrigerators.

Les Schwab in Reno - stopped in to get a front end alignment on our class C. It took much longer than anticipated to start on the job so they did it for free.

RE: Is there any maintenance to be done on the door?

Take it apart and clean the old lubricant out and regrease it. We also replaced the little spring because it had gotten weak. It's a pretty simple job and really improves the performance.

RE: Using tape on fiberglass

We've used silver duct tape in emergencies. It worked fine , stayed in place and was removed without harming the fiberglass. It did leave glue that we got off with Goo Gone and rubbing alcohol.

I'm guessing that you're snow birding in Vegas? There are many interesting museums and other things to see right in Vegas and a lot of them are free. http://www.vegas4locals.com/free.html
We enjoyed the Hoover Dam tour , Valley of Fire State Park and sight seeing around Lake Mead.

RE: Camping at Wal Mart

We've spent the night in a good number of Walmarts across the country. The lot sweeper is a common nightly occurrence. Most of the Walmarts do this and as you said it's not that big of a deal but we have never run into anyone using a leaf blower. That does seem like it was done just to annoy you.

RE: AT&T Rebate

We seem to be an exception here. We've had AT&T since before it became Cingular and had many problems with their poor customer service. We loved the customer service from Cingular and we're worried when it changed back to AT&T. However we haven't had any problems. We gotten four different rebate credits. We did follow the instructions exactly though. Good luck with getting yours back.

RE: Help us name our motorhome please!

"TONKA" for Tony and Karen!
Probably not because "Tonka" trucks is trademarked. Good idea though!
Yes , we were thinking that too - Tonka Toy!
We figured that the copyright laws wouldn't allow us to use it.
Good ideas,everyone! Keep them coming!

Help us name our motorhome please!

We're getting a motorhome body built on a Ford F 450 4x4 chassis and since it's a custom job we get to chose all of the details. Something we're definitely not used to doing!
One of the things we have to do is pick a model name and we're stumped.
Also does anyone know if model names are copyrighted? If we accidentally pick one that's already being used , obviously the lettering and colors will be different so would that be a copyright infringement?
We fulltime , boondock ,take backroads , travel slowly and like natural settings.
Any name ideas would be greatly appreciated!

RE: Please help me stay warm!

Very good suggestions so far. We're from Pittsburgh but have been full timing since 1993. However we always come back to Pittsburgh around the holidays. We manage to stay warm so it is possible.
When you're looking for RV get one with enclosed tanks then you won't have to worry about bales or straw or canvas. The straw is a good idea though just to keep everything warmer.
Hang a heavy curtain up between the cab and the living area. The big windows let in a lot of cold air.
Dual pane windows help a lot too. Otherwise insulate them with heavy curtains or some type of padding.
Never leave the water hose hooked up. Store it inside so that it stays flexible.
When it gets into the teens open the cabinet door to get air circulation to the pipes. In the single digits run the water through the lines a time or two during the night to keep it all unfrozen. Also run a small electric heater on low in the holding tank enclosure or under the motorhome if you're using bales. I've heard that just a light bulb gets off enough heat too.
Stuff the sky light and vents with squares of foam.
If you are planning on driving at all , lower the TV antenna at night so that it doesn't freeze in the up position.
The U Haul dealer at the cloverleaf on Route 51 sells propane.
We usually stay in family and friend's driveways so we don't have any winter campground experience in the area but I did find one that says that it's opened. http://www.indianbravecampground.com/
